The
Roles and Responsabilities of
Mattapan Tech's
Board Members
The most important qualifications for a board members should be that they understand and care about the Mattapan/ Greater Technology Learning Center's mission and they are committed to make their caring count.
The role of
a board member at Mattapan Tech includes:
- Being actively involved in the life of the community center, with an interest in workforce development and career building as a social and economic development tool.
- Being committed to regular attendance and participation at every board meeting and at meetings of the specific committees to which you are assigned. This commitment includes preparation for meetings and a familiarity with materials sent out in advance of meetings.
- Participating in the major advisory duties concerning the educational and economical needs of the targeted groups served by the Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center. The Board will elicit and maintain public support for the institution, actively participate in the fundraising programs, and counsel administration.
- Participating by attendance at lectures, community events, and performances, and joining in social functions as a way of becoming acquainted with students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Showing a willingness to share ideas and participate in board activities. To share your talents, skills, abilities, and resources that will help advance the goals of Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center.
- Supporting Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center fundraising efforts through personal giving to the annual fund of at least $100 annually, special campaigns, and the endowment (through lifetime or planned gifts). Whether large or small, your financial gift is an indispensable example to other contributors.
- Exhibiting an openness and commitment to the mission of the Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center.
- Being willing to say a good word about the school whenever or wherever you can. Being an advocate in the community on behalf of the school.
- Thinking professionally about your role as advisory board member or Trustee. Maintaining the confidential nature of board deliberations. Learning to use designated institutional channels when conducting board business.
- Making judgments always on the basis of what is best for the school as a whole and for the advancement of the educational process. Being willing to vote according to your individual conviction, to challenge the judgment of others when necessary, to support the majority decision of the board, and to work with fellow Board members in a spirit of cooperation.
- Realizing that you are the ultimate custodian of the values of the Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center and that as such, you must be constantly looking toward the future. Board members have no more urgent task than raising money to meet defined goals set by the Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center. This is the beginning, continuing, and never-ending work of a Board that takes seriously its custodianship of the values and institutional mission of the Mattapan/ Greater Boston Technology Learning Center.
